Interesting, didn't think of it from that angle. I guess this does mean that companies will have to start registering a host of different domains especially if they operate internationally.

Is it a cash-grab by ICANN? How on earth can business owners protect their TM's unless they register thousands of domain names. It's starting to get impossible for these companies...

yay :) nice to know you gusy liked it!

@Ben: yeah I conluded that the dragging on was normal auction practices, but still seems rather ‘unfair’ for the highest bidder at that time since had it not dragged on he would’ve paid a few thousand less. Though I guess it is the job of the auctioneer

@George: hmm, interesting didn’t think about the whole traditional vs simplified problem. That in itself opens another can of worms…say Japanese..kanji? hiragana? katana?

@defenestrator: lols yes, it did seem to turn out to be random fact of the day…musings of a psycho hey? interesting thought :P

@marty: well for these weekly posts probably the structure will be something along these lines. for the every now and then normal post it’ll just be a normal post :) brainstorming sounds like a good idea!

I like the new structure! wait, is this going to be your post structure going forward?

For the name, it can be something like daily pykought... we can have a brainstorming day for this :P

It's a good idea! I like it, it's like a random fact per day. Very awesome.

As for names, people like to put 'Musing/s" in there a lot - you know, like "Musings of a Pyko (or Psycho!)" or whatever. I think it's meant to sound all arty-farty and fancy. =P

Re: www.example.com

That's got to be one of the most random facts I have come across. Just went there and indeed it referred me to the RFC.

Re: non-Latin domains
I wonder will .台灣 and .臺灣 be interchangeable, and same to .中国 and .中國 hehe

This post turned out better than I anticipated :D

Re: auctions
I don't find anything particular unfair about normal auctions, it's the auctioneer's role to find the highest price he can from the bidders - not that different from the typical hard sell sales guy. For a more .... "interesting" ... business model then check out penny auctions such as swoopo and bidrivals.
